Growing Media & Amendments

Healthy soil is the key to successful organic gardening.  If you feed your soil properly, the soil will feed your plants properly. The on-going challenge for gardeners is to balance the soil so that it provides all the conditions plants need to thrive.

Improving your garden soil often includes adding organic compost and other soil amendments.   Most amendments are added to improve soil condition by increasing porosity, enhancing moisture retention and regulating pH balance. When organic materials are added to the soil, they also act in varying degrees as fertilizers, providing a mix of nutrients to plant roots.

Hydroponic growing typically produces larger plants faster than soil, but is more particular and less forgiving. More oxygen is retained in hydroponic growing media than with soil, which aids in uptake of nutrients by root hairs. The growing media we offer in this section is for both soil and hydroponic growing. All are popular and effective for indoor gardening.
